Colours and how they make us feel

Evocative Colours

I know Springtime is a long way off, but thinking of the evocative colours of wallflowers in bloom lifts my energy by reminding me of the sunshine to come, something I always look forward to after winter. Not only does the incredibly rich fragrance of these tiny flowers do the trick, but, moreover it’s the bursts of flame colours including warm oranges and golden yellows that set the optimism bar high in my mind.

A Personal Preference

We all react differently to colours and how they make you feel, it is such a personal preference. We gather memories from experience along the way with colour often being part of the make up of our emotions. With this in mind I was curious how I am drawn to these tiny sweet flowers of oranges and yellows. I have picked out some of my favourite Ceruse Artworks that paired with these warm colours that I love and set out to jot down how Chris our artist selected these hues knowing how they can spark a variety of senses.

Happiness

In this Art Piece called Barcelona Memory created in 2021 hues of yellows and oranges burst out from the radius of the ball. The colours escape through its mesh projecting happiness and brightness. Furthermore skilful rendering creates light, shadow and reflections bouncing from the multiple facets, a feast of well-being and joy. The rich orange hues also stimulate feelings of playfulness and energy, a truly dynamic piece.

Warmth

The warmth of the oranges and yellows used in this piece called Scape 3 is evocative of the glowing sun warming the ochre toned earth. It stimulates warm feelings and comfort as does the summer sunshine and smell of the warm earth. It wraps me up in a dreamy soft place.

Energy

The hues paired with these suspended transitional forms creates an atmosphere of excitement and energy vibrating within this piece called Arabesque. The bold energetic vivacity is enhanced with a backdrop of oranges and yellows which holds the composition together perfectly within its energetic flow.

To sit appealingly within interior design schemes, art made up of yellow and orange hues are often paired with whites, greys, blues and even black. They can inject a pop of vibrant colour into a room or alternatively with the right tones can give a subliminal lift to quietly place that piece of summer and well being throughout the year.

In my home I have introduced these beautiful warm hues by adding one of Chris’s Art pieces. It has filled my room with warmth that can be enjoyed all year round carrying me through to the return of April blooms.

Colour choice goes way beyond a matter of taste and I wish you happy experimenting in finding the ones that suit you best. Choose colours for your home or office that make your senses smile and lift your mood, after all, that's what really counts.
